Skewer

A skewer is the reverse of a pin. A long-range piece attacks a valuable piece, and a less valuable piece stands behind it. When the valuable piece moves, the one behind is taken.

The king is the most common front piece. A rook or queen check along a rank, file, or diagonal can skewer a loose piece behind the king.
