Pin
A pin is an attack on a piece that cannot move without exposing a more valuable piece behind it. An absolute pin is against the king: the pinned piece is not allowed to move. A relative pin is against a queen or another high piece: the piece can move, but moving loses the piece behind.
Pins become tactics when the pinned piece is attacked again, or when the piece behind it is the real target. Look along ranks, files, and diagonals from your bishops, rooks, and queen.
