Kingside attack

The target is the king on the kingside, usually after castling. The attack uses pawns, pieces, or both to open the g-file or the h-file and to strip the pawn shield.

Count the defenders around the king before you sacrifice. A kingside attack works when more attackers than defenders touch the mating square.
