Fork

A fork is one move that attacks two or more pieces at once. Knights fork from a distance of a knight move. Pawns, bishops, rooks, and queens fork along the lines they travel.

The most useful fork includes the king, because the check must be answered and the other piece falls. Look at squares from which one piece sees both the king and an undefended piece.
