Discovered attack
A discovered attack appears when one piece moves off the line of a friendly queen, rook, or bishop. The piece behind is the one that gives the discovered check or the discovered attack on a piece.
The moving piece can go anywhere along, or off, the line. Its destination is often a second threat, which is why discoveries fork so well.
