Bishop endgame
A bishop endgame is a position where the remaining minor piece is a bishop, usually with pawns. The bishop controls one color of squares, so pawns and the enemy king on the other color can be out of reach.
Put your pawns on the opposite color from your bishop when you need them to be safe, and use the bishop to lose a tempo when the king is in opposition.
